Our History

Founded in 1942, Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia, was built on principles of service, racial equality, and shared community life. Its commitment to these values led to the creation of a “housing ministry” that evolved into Habitat for Humanity International in 1976 under the leadership of Millard and Linda Fuller.

Habitat for Humanity Owensboro–Daviess County, founded in 1988, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing hardworking families with a hand up through affordable homeownership. In addition to building homes, we invest in our homeowners through education and support to help ensure long-term success for families and our community.

Our Mission

We are a leader in developing decent and affordable housing for low to moderate income families in our community. The faces of “low-to-moderate income families” are hardworking folks we encounter daily. People who serve us coffee at our favorite restaurant, first responders who mitigate our emergencies, and those who teach and care for our children and grandchildren.

Given the alarming number of families being evicted out of their homes, the high cost of substandard and dilapidated rentals, rental overcrowding, and rising rents laced with stagnating incomes, Owensboro-Daviess County, like many rural counties, is in a housing affordability crisis. HFHODV’s business model produces decent and affordable homes to Owensboro-Daviess County families and their children. Our approach is a measured and wealth-building alternative to building large-scale rental projects. Our expressed mission is to provide strength, stability, and security through shelter….one family and one home at a time.

Our Values

At Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County, our work is guided by a deep belief in dignity, hope, and the power of community. We believe every family deserves a safe, affordable place to call home — not just as shelter, but as a foundation for stability, growth, and opportunity. We are committed to serving with compassion, integrity, and respect, walking alongside partner families as they build stronger futures. Through collaboration, stewardship, and a spirit of service, we strive to create lasting impact that strengthens neighborhoods and uplifts generations.
