Habitat For Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County helps build safe, decent and affordable homes for low-income families in the community. There is a process to becoming a homeowner which starts with applying. Habitat Owensboro-Daviess County accepts merchandise donations such as beds, appliances, doors, cabinets, furniture and more. We in turn sell the items at low discounted prices to the public at our quarterly warehouse sales. Those proceeds are then used to help us put more money towards building homes in the community as well as keeping the lights on and maintaining our small but mighty staff.

No, our affiliate does not currently operate a ReStore. However, we host warehouse sales throughout the year that offer the community an opportunity to purchase donated items while supporting our mission. We also accept select donations of building materials and home-related items on a limited basis, depending on our current storage capacity. We encourage donors to contact us in advance to confirm what items we are able to accept at that time.

Habitat Owensboro-Daviess is funded entirely by donations, grants, and volunteers. We are always looking for great people who want to help make a huge difference for families in the community and be apart of making Owensboro-Daviess a great place to call home.

100% of cash donations can be used to build homes. All contributions are used where most needed, for construction materials, building permits, subcontractor fees or other construction expenses.

No, a Habitat home is not free. Our affiliate has never given away a home. Habitat wants to give a hand up, not a hand out. There is a process that begins with a pre-application, approval committees, home visits, partnership agreements, required workshops/classes to take and many hours volunteering “sweat equity”. Once a family has been approved for the program and completed all the requirements, they are re-qualified once more before being allowed to purchase the home. They are then sold the home at a 0% interest rate on a fixed mortgage term between 20-30 years. Habitat is the builder and the mortgage lender. The new homeowner will then make payments each month to Habitat.

Anyone can apply for a home loan through the Owensboro-Daviess County Affiliate office if they have either worked or lived in Owensboro-Daviess County for at least the last year. There is an Homeowner Selection Committee that assesses each applicant’s level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay a mortgage loan. Once they are approved with each committee, they are presented to our Board of Directors for final approval.

Yes! Habitat needs volunteers to work on many different things from our office to the build sites. Some of these tasks may be working on special events like mentoring families, fundraising, entering donations into the computer, and many others.
