About Us

What is Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for humanity is an international Christian organization which builds houses for qualified low-income families. In Owensboro, Habitat has been building houses since 1988. Houses are sold at no profit and no interest to partner families.

Habitat homeowner partners agree to:

  • Invest sweat equity hours in lieu of a down payment
  • Maintain the house and property
  • Make timely mortgage payments

What is the Habitat for Humanity homeowner process?

Homeowner applicants participate in a screening process which consists of an application review meeting, an information workshop, a background check, an on-site home interview and financial counseling. Applicants are approved for homeownership by the Habitat Board of Directors after being reviewed and recommended by the Habitat Family Selection Committee. Each approved family receives guidance and support throughout the home ownership process from a Habitat Family Advocate.

Application Process

Habitat has an ongoing application process. Potential applicants can call the office at (270) 926-6110 for information on the process and what steps to take to become a homeowner. The Application Review Committee will meet at the end of February. If you are interested, or if you know of someone interested, in applying for a Habitat home, please contact the Habitat office as soon as possible.
